Focus Nanotechnology Africa Inc. (FONAI), is a not-for-profit and tax exempted under Section 501(c) (3) of the IRS code. It is for scientific and educational purpose in the USA, Africa and the Caribbean.

Nanotechnology is a science and engineering study of processes, devices, systems and materials at 1 billionth of a meter. Nanoscale studies will lead to discoveries of objects that are much cheaper and effective, leading to explosion of industries ever imagined by man. Nanotechnology is regarded as the greatest industrial and scientific revolution taking place and the impact is more than the impact of information technology and biotechnology put together. Nanotechnology will have great effect on medicine and health, materials and manufacturing, aeronautics and space exploration, environment and energy, national security, information technology, science and education and global competitiveness. The market will be about 3.7 trillion dollar by 2015.

A few millennia ago, Africa was at the forefront of technology, we were the first to enter into the agricultural and stone age. The first civil society came from Africa; the Egyptian civilization, originating subjects like chemistry. Today the story is different, we are actively at the bottom in technological development, so we have been termed as the "poorest nations" despite our rich natural resources.

Every year about 20,000 talented and well educated Africans leave that continent; consequently, in about another decade, Africa will be void of any core scientific researchers. This spells imminent disaster worse than HIV/AIDS epidemic or the Tsunami in Asia. Poverty continues to invade the black world. Poverty is the worst form of violence and worse than any disease here on earth. It is the major root cause of HIV/AIDS and other diseases, terrorism, illiteracy, malnutrition, human, money and narcotics trafficking, tyranny, illegal immigration, ideological intolerance, genocide, debt slavery, etc.

Africa and the Caribbeans continue to receive aid that in most cases ends up in the pockets of corrupt leaderships, rich mafias, and their allies who forment and institutionalize poverty. These aids also fall into hands of people who are adventurers and tourists to Africa and Caribbean without any meaningful interest and knowledge to the survival of this region.
These emergency aids have in most cases caused more harm than good because they leave the recipients in stranded situation, as they are neither developmental nor sustainable. If these aids solve any problems at all, they are short-term and not sustainable. They are in most situations not geared toward creating jobs, setting up schools or small businesses for the majority poor, thereby empowering them.

The center of all these problems is the lack of a good technological vision and breakthrough. Nanotechnology is the industrial and scientific revolution taking place now. The projected nanotechnology funding 2006-2010 are :
US, $5.6 billion; Japan, $5.915 billion, Germany, $2.1 billion;South Korea, $1.015 billion; EU, $4.415 billion and China, $3.115 billion.  The whole of African continent is larger than United States, Europe, India, China, Argentina and New Zealand put together with an estimated current population of 1 billion. The whole of Africa and the Caribbean with 68 countries has nothing yet in concrete terms of initiating Nanotechnology or budgetary allocation. Specifically, our mission is to:
Sensitize the whole of Africa and the Caribbean on nanotechnology by means of lectures, seminars, workshops and publications.
Draft proposals that will involve a grand alliance of academia, government agency and industry.

Set-up Nanotech Research Centers of Excellence around specific themes like nanomaterial synthesis, nanoscale fabrication of devices, nanoscale studies of phenomena and processes, nanomanufacturing, etc.

Discoveries from these Nanotech Research Centers of excellent will lead to a proliferation of industries (small and big) leading to social and economic development, thereby combating poverty and advancing human achievement. In addition, FONAI stands for zero tolerance to corruption. We believe in accountability, integrity, honesty and hardwork. We believe that these missions among others can provide definite solutions to the problem of technological poverty leading to unstable and deceased Africa and the Caribbean.

FONAI, as a  non-profit institution, is well positioned to accomplish this onerous task. The budget for this project is $10 billion for 10 years. The USA part of the contribution will be $4 billion including a nanotech research center of excellence where all FONAI core researches will be carried out. The total project is estimated to cost $10 billion.

Africa and the Caribbean need developmental aid - just like the Japanese and the Germans after the world wars - that can be handled by indigenous honest NGO's to circumvent institutionalized corruption, and money poured into national treasury.

We are therefore soliciting for your support for us to accomplish our goals which are very challenging but have high long term impact in Africa and the Caribbean leading to definite solutions to problem of institutionalized corruption, diseased society and poverty.
